Biography
“As a self-taught artist, I’ve always had the ability to express myself through drawing since a very young age. It took me a while to discover my passion for art however it was always deeply rooted in me somewhere. It wasn’t until a very close friend of mine had a baby that I then picked up a pencil and decided to draw him for her. Her joy and delight in receiving my gift overcame me and the emotions it gave her at the time is precisely why I felt compelled to continue honing my talent. When others are moved in a positive way as a result of viewing works that I’ve created is what feeds my inspiration.
I’ve always been fascinated by faces and colours, which is likely why I started off my career with portraits. Being able to go from a blank canvas to creating a painting that captures someone’s exact likeness. I primarily work in oil for portraits, simply because the vivid colours allow me to create the realistic look I like to achieve.
Professionally, I spent hours studying Phoebe Dickinson’s use of colour and Gil Elvgren’s work has inspired the pin-up series. I wanted to merge two infamous iconographies of the girls to emphasise the words on the cover. “
